Christmases 2024

Christmas #1 was held at my niece's house in Wisconsin.  This celebration was with my side of the family.  Much fun was had.

As the chitlins were opening their stockings, son #2 (above on the right) decided to line all of his candy loot into neat rows. Daughter-in-law and sons #1 & #3 preferred the bunch and pile method.

After the obligatory candy trading sessions were held, silly sons gave all of their Caramello's to their aunt and uncle before trying them and realizing how yummy they were.  Silly silly sons.

Christmas #2 was held at our house with hubby's side of the family.  Again, much fun was had.  Played many games, including Catan Starfarers.

And put together a 1000 piece puzzle.  Son #2 and I love puzzles.  It runs in the family, as you will see below.

One of my Christmas presents this year was a slide scanner.  My grandfather and father took many slides between the 1940s and 1980s.  Since my parents' deaths I've been storing them in my basement.  This year I decided I should finally scan them to a digital format.

So after Christmas Hubby dutifully brought up one tote of slides from the basement, and after a bit of a learning curve I've been scanning madly.  Here's a four generation photo from 1963 with my older brother, father, father's mother, and father's maternal grandfather.

1860 slides later, I've finally finished the whole tote.  Only three more totes to go!  As promised, here's a pic of me and my family enjoying puzzles from 1988.  I'm on the left.  37 years ago.  Egads!

Scanning these old photos has been bittersweet.  Sweet to remember things from long ago, bitter to see people I'll never meet again.  And bitter to realize how much time has gone by.  Time flies, whether you're having fun or not, and it flies faster the older you get.  Two days ago son #1turned 24.  How did that happen?

We'll have Christmas #3 in early March.  Hubby's father couldn't come to #2 due to a bout with Covid at the end of December.  Then we'll be all caught up with Christmases, just in time for Easter.
